Hi, Iām Adam.
I make things.
My name is Adam Greenlee. I am 22 years old, and I have been an artist all my life. I was born in the North East and grew up in Westport, CT. I attended Staples High School, where my creativity evolved from a hobby to a passion. While at Staples, I spent four years as a member of the legendary Staples Wreckers Boys Tennis Team, and prior to my senior year, I was elected Team Captain by a unanimous vote of my teammates. Additionally, I was a proud member of the award-winning Staples student newspaper Inklings, where I served for a year as a staff writer and Assistant Creative Director. I graduated high school in the spring of 2020, and later that year went on to attend Butler University, a small liberal arts college in Indianapolis, IN. At Butler, I continued to grow as a visual artist through my studies as an Art + Design major at the Jordan College of the Arts. Following the conclusion of my sophomore year, I made the decision to take a gap year prior to transferring to a full-time art institution closer to my home in CT. During my time away from school, I have remained focused on continuing my work in the arts. In addition to completing several projects of my own accord in an attempt to constantly add to my portfolio and expand my skills, I have also been on occasion working professionally, and creating a variety commission-based work for several clients. My central focus in life at this moment in time is returning to my studies full-time and continuing my education at one of the many incredible art institutes in my area.
I occasionally find myself struggling to answer questions from others about my relationship to the arts, and what exactly they mean to me. Sometimes, I feel myself struggling to find the correct words to articulate my answer to these seemingly simple questions. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that rather than trying to deliver some complex diatribe about my personal experiences and viewpoints that may not quite resonate with others in the way that I would wish it to, I would instead provide an answer just as simple as the question: Art means everything to me. Art is not a thing that I do, it is the way that I live; it is the lens in which I view the world; it is the driving factor responsible for the majority of my thoughts; it directs my most basic instincts, it is imbued within my very soul. My relationship to the arts can be described as a powerful force within me that is largely responsible for the person that I am today. However, a better way to describe it would be to simply say that art means everything to me.
